The Secret's Out: New Bridal Trends For Summer

As new bridal trends emerge for summer, style-conscious brides are seeking new and tasteful ways to accessorise, creating the perfect look on their wedding day.

In preparing for upcoming weddings this summer Secrets founder, Jane Meredith, has identified several key looks that will dominate the season, including gowns featuring modern angular lines, short and simply cut wedding dresses, unique necklines and embellishments.

Modern Angular Lines:

Geometric shapes, sleek angles, and peplum cuts will dominate bridal trends for summer 2012/2013. Secrets latest collection offers a range of contemporary cut pieces that complements a modern-day look.

Short and Simple Cuts:

With the warmer weather approaching, some designers have opted for shorter lengths and classic cuts to keep Australian brides cool this summer. To boost the glamour, accessorise with statement pieces that add sparkle and charm.

Unique Necklines:

This season marked a departure from traditional sweetheart and strapless styles, to high, embellished necklines. To balance this new look, focus on adorning your wrists with beautiful bracelets and keep earrings sleek and simple.

Bejewelled Embellishment:

Bejeweled gowns and detailed embroidery are show-stopping gowns for summer. Brides are encouraged to continue the sparkling theme through the use of shimmering earrings and bold rings.

12/12/12 Lucky Wedding Date?

Image by Amanda Fintan (Amanda Fintan Photography)

Thousands of couples around the world are tying the knot today on 12-12-12, a once in a century wedding date. The date 12-12-12 is set to become the anniversary for many newlyweds specifically in New South Wales, with a record number of couples due to tie the knot today.

According to The West Australian, over 120 couples have signed up to get married today at the Births, Deaths and Marriages registries in Sydney, Parramatta, Wollongong and Newcastle. The date has also proved popular for non-registry weddings.

Last year there were 967 marriages recorded on Remembrance Day 11-11-11. Not only was this a special date numerically, but also holds great significance for many Australians, marking the day each year that we observe one minute silence at 11 am on 11 November, in memory of those who died or suffered in wars and armed conflicts.

12-12-12 follows the trend of sequential numbers for popular and unique wedding dates, like 10-10-10, 11-11-11, and 10-11-12. There was 11-11-11 (a Friday), 1-1-11 (a Saturday), 10-10-10 (a Sunday), and a range of others. This year's special date falls on a Wednesday, quite an odd day of the week to hold a wedding, although proving not to have deterred many couples in Australia and abroad.

It is believed by some that the symmetry of 12-12-12 will bring good luck to their marriage. 12/12/12 has also proved popular as it is an easy date to remember (a plus for the groom!).

Best of well and well wishes to all the brides getting married today, on this special, once in a lifetime date!

Add a Little Tradition to Your Wedding Ceremony

The Unity Sand Ceremony is a novel alternative for the popular 'unity candle ceremony' incorporated into many of today's weddings. The essence is to symbolise the union of 'two into one'.

This sand version is not only beautiful and interesting, but also more appropriate for an outdoor setting, such a beach or garden wedding. With the addition of fresh flowers, these distinctive vases will make an intriguing addition to a home's decor.

The addition of co-ordinating miniature nesting vases and contrasting colours of sand allows children to be invited to take part in a 'family sand ceremony'. Standard vase requires 0.91 kg of sand.

Unity Sand Ceremony Vase sets are available for purchase online from Weddingstar.

Choosing Your Wedding Flowers...

Chanel Rose Flowers, Images by One Love Photography

From chic elegance to sumptuous exuberance, nothing adds colour, perfume, and personality to your big day like fresh flowers.

The flowers you choose for your bouquet will depend on your colour scheme, what’s in season at the time, and your budget – which you will need to keep firmly in mind, as it’s very easy to get carried away by all that fragrant beauty! Other than your bouquet, you may also want floral headpieces, buttonholes, bridesmaids’ bouquets, corsages, and don’t forget flowers for the flower girl. Some brides order rose petals to replace confetti, and a fresh flower decoration for your wedding cake can look stunning.

The selection of flowers for your bouquet is your first priority. All other arrangements should then be designed to complement it. Your bridesmaids’ bouquets can be either a smaller version of yours, or provide a complete contrast. For your flower girl, choose something easy for small hands to carry, or consider a pomander of flowers to be worn on her wrist. Buttonholes and corsages should also complement your bouquet.

For an outdoor ceremony, flower filled urns and topiary trees will add colour and can also be used to demarcate the area. If you have chosen a garden location, the need for additional flowers could be considerably reduced depending on the time of year.

No matter whether your wedding theme is urban chic, country charm, or glitzy glamour, flowers will help you to set the mood. And after going to the trouble (and expense) of creating a bouquet that has helped to shape the mood of your wedding day, wouldn’t you like to keep it? Flower preservation can ensure that you enjoy your bouquet for a long time to come.

We just love the flower arrangements, bouquets and styling by Chanele Rose Flowers. They are a niche family operated Sydney-based wedding florist dedicated to providing fresh, pretty and new ideas in floral design and event styling to the wedding and event industry.
Chanele Rose Flowers can help style your event to suit your budget, personality and theme.
