Profile: Sheree from Suna Shoes

As part of a new feature on The Bride's Diary Blog, we will be introducing you to individuals who work in the wedding industry... giving you an insight into who they are and why they love weddings!

This week we have been talking to Sheree from Suna Shoes, about her hectic life running the store that has been voted Australia's No. 1 Bridal Shoe Specialist! Sheree also gives us insight into her past life as a jewellery buyer (we are very jealous!) and her love for her children and family...

• Tell us a little about your business…

Suna Shoes offer the largest and most exciting range of bridal and formal shoes in Australia! Suna have been voted Australia’s No.1 Bridal Shoe Specialist and have over 25 years experience in the bridal footwear industry. We pride ourselves on exceptional service, vast range and expertise. It is a pleasure to walk into one of our stores knowing that our brides can choose from a ballet flat, a low heel, high heel, wedge, with lots of bling or none at all, and ranging in price from $80 to $300. Our gorgeous handbags, tiaras and jewellery complete the look. For the brides who cannot get to one of our stores, we offer a fully secured, user friendly website www.suna.com.au where they can shop online at their leisure.

• What is your role in the business and why are you passionate about it?

Being the owners of the business it is our whole life! We live and breathe it every minute of the day and we LOVE IT! We have all brides and their bridal parties in the forefront of our minds when we design our brand Keara Hamiltyn, and also when we purchase from other suppliers. It is important to us and our entire team to ensure the bride leaves our store a happy one!

• How long have you been working in the industry?

Shoes are in Andrew’s blood with both his parents previously involved in both retail and wholesale. We purchased the business 7 years ago and have since expanded in number of stores and the product mix. I have a retail, buying and marketing background and we both work well together.

• What are some of your past business experiences?

In my previous life (pre children & shoes!) my career was in the jewellery business. I was the Diamond Jewellery Buyer for Michael Hill International, buying beautiful diamond jewellery for all Michael Hill stores in 3 different countries. This involved extensive travel, negotiating, and building business relationships with suppliers. I also held the Buyers role within the Opal industry in Australia for some time. I loved the jewellery industry and had been involved in this field since I was 18 yrs old. It took a number of years for me to decide to join our business, as I seriously thought Andrew and I would kill each other! Ha ha… But I am so glad I did, as we work well together and have such a passion for shoes & accessories. After all, what more could a girl want ~ jewellery & shoes!

• What is one of your favourite recollections from your business?

Launching our e-commerce website – it has been a huge success. Some of our bride’s email us their wedding photos which is always nice to see. We receive many happy testimonials which make it all worthwhile. Creating our ‘Keara Hamiltyn’ bridal range has been phenomenal also. We are regularly overseas developing new styles and to ensure quality control over this new and exciting brand… Can you guess where the name came from? (See below...)

• Tell us a bit about your family and home life…

We are based in Brisbane and have 2 beautiful children, Hamiltyn aged 7 and Keara, 4. They have been surrounded by shoes, handbags, and accessories and a hectic lifestyle their entire life, so we are sure they will be involved within the business when they are older!

• How do you enjoy spending your spare time?

Spare time??? We’re like EveryReady batteries that never stop! With the business and our children there’s not a lot of time left over, but Andrew and I have a busy social life and love catching up with our friends and family and having a laugh….and a few drinks of course.

• What is your most memorable life experience?

Definitely giving birth to both of our children – it totally changes your life for the better.

• What are your plans for the future?

We are focused on growth and are about to open our 5th store in QLD in December. This is very exciting and we trust our brides ‘up north’ will enjoy having a Suna store nearby.

Profile: Celyna from Ziolkowski Evening & Bridal Couture

As part of a new feature on The Bride's Diary Blog, we will be introducing you to individuals who work in the wedding industry... giving you an insight into who they are and why they love weddings!

This week we have been chatting with the lovely and talented Celyna, designer and owner of Ziolkowski Evening & Bridal Couture. Celyna has a diverse background in the fashion industry, designing for film and television as well as creating couture gowns for red carpet events and bridal. Celyna shares with us her love of travel and the arts, the fun she has working with brides, as well as the excitement and joy of her own wedding day...

• Tell us a little about your business…

At Ziolkowski Evening & Bridal Couture, we create unique hand crafted gowns designed exclusively for the modern day woman. Every Ziolkowski gown is an individual piece created in the Sydney design studio, using the most luxurious fabrics, silks, imported laces and beautifully beaded trims. We design gorgeous gowns to suit the personality, style and figure of the wearer, creating one off pieces to truly make your event an amazing one whether that be evening, red carpet or bridal! We believe in a personalised service, giving you the attention that you deserve and creating your dream dress!

• What is your role in the business and why are you passionate about it?

I’m the designer and owner of Ziolkowski Evening & Bridal Couture. I’m passionate about working with each individual client to discuss their needs and requirements and to ultimately create the dress of their dreams!

I’m dedicated to innovation, elegance, sophistication, glamour and quality of workmanship, which is evident in my designs.

• How long have you been working in the industry?

I’ve been working in the industry for over 15 years; that includes bridal, fashion, film & TV.

• What are some of your past business experiences?
I’ve worked with many Australian and International stars and my designs have been worn to the Logies and other red-carpet awards as well as in several films, TV shows, commercials, video clips and theatrical productions. I love seeing people wearing my designs and I do get a sense of satisfaction knowing that I’ve helped in creating part of their special moment.

• What is one of your favourite recollections from your business?

Everyone is different and I treat all my clients as individuals so every encounter has been unique and special. Although it’s always interesting when I’m creating both the brides and bridegrooms outfits. Usually, they both want what they are wearing to be kept secret until the wedding day, however they do want their outfits to work together and co-ordinate without the other one knowing what they are wearing. This can lead to all sorts of “cloak & dagger” behaviour with having to enlist the help of family and bridal party members to find out all kind of things. There has been a lot of fun!

• Tell us a bit about your family and home life…

There’s just my husband and I and it’s true what they say…”that opposite’s attract”! My husband and I are complete opposites, but I guess that’s why we have been together so long and why our relationship is so strong. I come from a family of all girls and he from a family of all boys, so now we have a very large extended family and lots of brothers and sisters in-laws!

• How do you enjoy spending your spare time?
My husband and I both love traveling, whether it’s for an overseas holiday or a quick weekend break; we love getting away, seeing new places and meeting new people. I’m passionate about the arts also, so in my spare time I’ll visit art galleries, see a concert or read a fabulous book!

• What is your most memorable life experience?
My own wedding last year! I would always hear of people saying that it’s the best day of your life, but I didn’t really take them seriously until it happened to me. It was a fantastic day – the best ever!!!

• What are your plans for the future?
Happiness of course…isn’t that what we all want! We have a few projects in mind, however I’m a bit superstitious so I won’t jinx anything until it happens! I’ll keep you posted though!

Ziolkowski Evening & Bridal Couture are offering a free design and colour consultation for all brides who make bookings with them before the end of December 2010.

Mademoiselle de Paris Collection by Thierry Martin for Fairfax & Roberts

Iconic Australian atelier Fairfax and Roberts continue their pursuit of excellence in design and manufacture with their latest collection of jewellery created by their internationally acclaimed creative director, Thierry Martin.

The Mademoiselle de Paris Collection is a unique offering displaying exceptional design, cut and brilliance. This ready-to-wear collection was inspired by Paris, the City of Lights, and in particular the magnificent chandelier-lit interiors of the Opera de Paris with its grand staircase and sumptuously embellished walls adorned in gold leaf.

Designed and handcrafted using the most precious champagne, yellow and white diamonds all set in yellow gold, the Mademoiselle de Paris Collection is reminiscent of a Parisian mademoiselle adorned with jewels and an haute couture gown as she ascends the grand staircase for an opening night.

“I only work with the best quality gemstones and creating pieces with moving bezels or ribbon effects magnify the stone’s colours and enhance their inner sparking reflective lights. For me, this is the beauty, sumptuousness and core value of the Mademoiselle de Paris Collection designs,” says Martin who has created pieces for design houses such as Bvlgari, Boucheron, Harry Winston and Chanel.

The Mademoiselle de Paris Collection features elegant necklaces, shimmering pendants, delicate drop earrings, exquisite rings, a delicate bracelet and magnificent collier that embody Fairfax and Roberts timeless elegance and strong design aesthetic. These masterpieces are available from Fairfax and Roberts this month.
