Unity Sand Ceremony

A great way to personalise your wedding ceremony is with a Unity Sand Ceremony. Similar to the Unity Candle Ceremony, the Unity Sand Ceremony symbolises the union of "two into one". The Unity Sand Ceremony provides a focal point to your ceremony and the result is a beautiful keepsake that reflects your relationship.

The images shown here use black sand for the groom and white for the bride. There are a variety of beautiful coloured sands available so you can customise the ceremony to suit your wedding them and your individual personalities.

1. The Groom will commence by pouring a portion of the black sand into the central glass vase.

2. The Bride will follow by pouring a portion of the white sand also into the central vase creating a layered effect.
3. To complete the ceremony, the Groom and Bride simultaneously pour the balance of their sand into the central container. To make this process a little easier, create a funnel using decorative paper. Personalise the funnel by including names, date or even poetry that holds a special meaning for the Bride and Groom. (The central vase can be engraved with the Bride and Groom's monogram). The co-mingling of the coloured sand represent the joining of the Bride and Groom.

Consult with your wedding officiate in order to customise the readings and sentiments that will accompany this ceremony.

4. Following the wedding, the two outside vases can be used to display fresh flowers while the central vase will remain a cherished keepsake of your wedding day.

The Family Sand Ceremony - with the addition of coordinating Miniature Nesting Vases and contrasting colours of sand, children can be invited to take part - a great idea when children from previous relationships will become part of a new blended family. The mixing of the various sand colours is a fitting way to symbolise the new Blended Family that will result from this union.

Although there are no set guidelines for this ceremony, generally the sand is poured into the central vase in the following order:

1. Father
2. Mother
3. Children
4. Father & Mother together.
Readings and sentiments can be customised as desire

Gift Idea from Riedel Glas

Wedding gifts are a chance for you to express your hopes and well wishes to the bride and groom, and what better way to do this then with an exquisite gift from Riedel Glas. The Black Tie Amadeo Wine Decenter from the 2009 Riedel range is simply stunning, and will bring a lifetime of fine wine experiences to the lucky couple.

Below are some thoughts on decanting from French winemaker, Christian Moueix…

"I prefer to decant wines, both young and old. It is a sign of respect for old wines and a sign of confidence in young wines. Decanting old wines, just a few moments before they are served, helps to ensure that the wines' clarity and brilliance are not obscured by any deposit that may have developed over time. Decanting young wines several hours before they are served gives the wine a chance to bloom and attain a stage of development that normally requires years of aging."
