Using one of the most rare and exquisite gemstones in the world, the pink diamond, Mondial Neuman: Pink Diamond Gallery creates one-of-a-kind pieces that are truly unique in colour and design. With the largest selection in the world of pink diamonds available to the public, Mondial Neuman is able to cater to any pink diamond request.
Specialising in pink and coloured diamonds, Mondial Neuman sources its pink diamonds from the Argyle Diamond mine in Western Australia, where over 90 per cent of the world’s pink diamonds are mined.
Mondial Neuman is a family owned business, with two stores, founded by Fred Neuman. Collectively, the family has almost 100 years experience, meaning that customers receive the best expert advice when it comes to selecting and designing jewellery with coloured diamonds.
The first Mondial Neuman store, based in the Queen Victoria Building (QVB), Sydney opened in 1993 and is co-managed by Fred’s son, Michael, and his cousin Jacob. More recently in November 2009, Mondial Neuman opened its second store in the Strand Arcade Sydney, Mondial by Nadia Neuman. A true family affair, the Strand Arcade store is managed by Fred’s daughter, Nadia Neuman.
Each member of the Mondial Neuman team brings to the business a wealth of knowledge in jewellery design and diamonds. Fred has been a doyen of the jewellery trade since the early 1960’s, while Michael is a gemologist, graduating from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in 1982, as well as being a registered valuer and board member of the Jewellers Association of Australia (JAA). Fred’s cousin Jacob has worked alongside him for the past 29 years. Initially from Vienna, he brings a European finesse and aesthetic to the direction of the QVB store. Nadia has completed a course in design at the Gemological Association of Australia. Nadia has also operated her own wholesale jewellery business where she designed and sold her own creations to high-end jewellers Australia-wide.
The creative flair of the team at Mondial Neuman and their use of breathtaking gemstones is constantly being recognised by jewellery associations across the country. In 2008 Mondial Neuman took home two awards from the Australian Jewellery Design Awards, in the categories of Diamond Design Award (retail under $5,000.00) and Diamond Design Award (retail above $5,000.00). Most recently, in 2009 they won an award at the Harper’s Bazaar Diamond Guild Australia Jewellery Awards, in the category of Fancy Fancy Diamond Award.
“At Mondial Neuman we are constantly challenging the status quo in jewellery design. Creating truly unique designs, with the rarest of all gems is something that sets us apart,” says Michael Neuman.
Each store also offers a unique collection entitled Diamond Dreaming, inspired by Aboriginal culture and designs. The unique series of jewellery was created by award winning Indigenous designer, Alison Page (also a judge on the ABC programme “The New Inventors”). Each piece utilises an assortment of precious metals combined with natural coloured diamonds.
Before opening Mondial Neuman, Fred Neuman and his wife Maria, owned Carina Jewellers in East Sydney. Throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s Carina’s was a landmark store for people wishing to invest in unique pieces of jewellery. The store also had its share of high profile customers such as Elton John (not yet ‘sir’) who purchased a Diamond Heart Pendant for his future wife Renata as a Valentine’s Day gift.
In the late 1970’s the Neuman’s turned to jewellery wholesaling and established Neuman Imports. The importing business soon gained a good reputation amongst the Australian jewellery industry for its premium quality jewellery. At the time, the Neumans also began researching and sourcing coloured gems, marking their transition into coloured diamonds.
Both Mondial Neuman stores welcome one-on-one consultations to help customers choose their diamond and design their special piece from start to finish.
